Nose surgery (rhinoplasty)

Our face is our “business card,” and the nose is the central part of it. That’s why a harmonious, balanced, and good looking face appearance highly depends on our nose. By changing the form of nose and its size, facial proportions can be improved, and the breathing itself can get better. Nose surgery can improve the size the nose, its sideview, the shape of the tip, and nose-lip angle. The nostril can be narrowed, the form of nose can be restored after trauma, the bone and cartilage part of the partition can be straightened.

Surgery. Rhinoplasty is usually done under general anesthesia, although sometimes, if it’s only a nose tip surgery, local anesthesia is used. Surgery can be done using an open or closed technique. When surgery is done using open technique, a small bridging incision of 3 mm, called a trans-columellar incision, is performed to connect the right and left nostril incisions. When closed technique is used, incisions are positioned inside the nostrils. During the surgery, the bone and cartilage part of the nose are adjusted, various surgical activities are done to restore the nose’s axis, to remove the bump, and to form the tip of the nose. Surgery lasts from 1 to 3 hours and its finished by bandaging and immobilizing nose. The patient spends one night at the clinic, the stitches are removed in 5 days, and the special bandage is removed in 10-14 days, when the bones heal. The patient can return to work in 2-3 weeks. The initial result is seen in 4-6 weeks, but the full result can only be seen in 1-2 years. This surgery can indeed change the whole appearance of a person, and needs to be performed only by a very experienced surgeon.
